IF YOU USE INTEGRAL SHAFTED BEARINGS, ARE YOU MAKING THESE THREE COMMON MISTAKES?

Mistake #1: Many companies don’t consider all the factors that should go into finding the proper bearing. These factors include:

  • Speed
  • Load
  • Temperature
  • Clearance
  • Lubrication
  • Environment

Mistake #2: Not supporting the housing the integral shaft bearing is being pressed into.

It is critical to have the housing on a flat surface during installation.

Mistake #3: Applying force to the balls or rollers when press fitting into the application.

Only apply force to the outside of the outer ring during the process.

There are many applications that use integral shaft bearings, so if you’re using them (or making these common mistakes) then you’re not alone. Some examples of applications that use integral shaft bearings include: automotive, agricultural machinery, cutter spindles, landscaping equipment, spinning machines, and tension pulleys.

When one of our customers came to us with a problem with their integral shafted bearings, we were successful in helping them find a solution for their specific application. We hope knowing these common mistakes and learning more about a successful case study helps you get the most out of your integral shaft bearings.

SUCCESSFUL RITBEARING CASE STUDY

APPLICATION

Water Pump

TYPE OF BEARING USED

885586 soft shaft water pump bearing, also known as integral shafted bearings

PROBLEM

This bearing is used in many applications and with many shaft configurations. This requires the bearings to be machined to the proper size and configuration. These secondary operations are very costly and will take additional time to perform. A mistake can cause scrap and additional cost.

SOLUTION

Offer a fully machined shafted bearing direct from the factory.

Ritbearing offered custom machined bearings (that met the customer’s specifications) directly from the factory. Our engineers worked with the customer to obtain the proper specifications, and then worked directly with the factory to ensure successful manufacturing of the bearings. If needed, engineers would aid with the creation of prints or other guides.

Other points to consider for an integral shaft bearing:

  • Outside of a double row ball bearing design, other options exist. If the application requires a heavier load, Ritbearing can offer a ball/roller design.
  • Depending upon the environment of the application, a variety of sealing options are available.
