Case Study #1001

Application:

Dry Ice Machine

Type of Bearing Used:

50 mm bore Single Row Radial Ball Bearing with 2 buna seals

Problem:

Bearings were rusting prematurely. Bearing steel used, 52100. Typically, getting a bearing in a larger size that is 440 stainless steel becomes very expensive. Also, longer lead-times generally will apply, as most manufacturers tend not to carry heavy inventory in larger bore sizes.

Solution:

Offer the customer an alternative utilizing standard 52100 chrome steel bearings. Implemented a coating process of iron nitride, followed by a final sealant added to the bearings. Process was put on a finished bearing, no additional grinding took place. It transformed the bearing into a product with excellent resistance to corrosion. Also has increased wear properties on the bearing

Materials typically not able to receive the iron nitride coating process are: bronze, copper, aluminum and nickel. Products that are made from: carbon steel, stainless steel or tool steel can receive the process.

Ritbearing can provide samples for approval prior to order placement depending upon the size of the job. Once approved, a blanket order can be placed and inventory can be held for just in time delivery.
